I bought these floral wedges (for a bargain price!) on Monday and I'm so in love with them that I just had to wear them the next day. It would seem that everyone else like them as well, as I received several compliments on them. I only have one dress that they go with, but I personally love the look of wedges and light coloured jeans so it's not really an issue.

In other news, Season 4 of The X-Files arrived on my doorstep today so much terrified watching will ensue. If you're looking for a new tv series to start watching, I highly recommend The X-Files. Even if you don't think it will be your cup of tea, it's worth having a little watch because you might be surprised. I really is a top notch tv series. :)

Yesterday my friend and I went to a Nostalgia Weekend that was taking place at a local stately home (think Brideshead, except a little smaller!). All my life I've wanted to take part in one these weekends but, what with one thing and another, I've never got around to it. What a lot I've been missing out on! Although the day wasn't gorgeous (the weather couldn't make up it's mind clearly as it was raining one moment and sunny the next.), everything about the event was wonderful. We snook into a little air raid shelter (pictured below) and I got to touch a hand grenade (that made me very excited), we heard a talk on the part the RAF/WAAF played during the first few years of WWII, walked around the house (which is exquisite), played with model trains that were set up in the (huge) library, and spent the rest of the time gawking at all the fabulous middle aged women who were just so beautiful in their skirt suits and snazzy hats and then men in the uniforms/civvies. It was such a wonderful day and we're already planning on going to the Living History weekend that is being held at the same place next month! :D

Today I had the opportunity of watching the Olympic Torch Relay pass through my part of the country. Therefore, I decided that it would be an appropriate time to dress in red, white, and blue. For someone who didn't get their butt in gear to apply for tickets for any of the actual Olympic events, it was lovely to get into the spirit of the thing and I'm just really happy and grateful that I got to see such a historic moment. I didn't get many good photos, but I have my memories and that's what counts. If you're a fellow British Isles dweller, I hope you all get/got to see the torch at some point! :)

Top: New Look
Necklace: no idea
Belt: eBay
Skirt: Primark
Tights: New Look
Shoes: New Look

I got this skirt last week and I'm in love with it. As a general rule, I'm not a fan of more "floaty" skirts/dresses and feel much more comfortable in pencil skirts, but the print on this one was just too good to pass up on.

I'm hopefully going to be posting more frequently on here (I know, famous last words), so keep checking back! :)

Friday Flashback

1. Eating a gorgeous Danish shortbready thing when I arrived.
2. A night shot of the Catholic Church in Aarhus.
3. The view from the plane on the way back to miserable, foggy England.
4. My new haircut and colour.
5. Little Scampi looking adorable (as always).
6. Another photo of my hair (it looks much darker than it actually is!)

coatmates

Tee: New Look
Jeans: New Look
Mac: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: New Look
Belt: no idea

I've been searching for a spring/summer jacket for ages and finally I found my perfect mate in this rust coloured mac from Dorothy Perkins. It must have been made for me as it goes with virtually my entire wardrobe. Obviously, being a mac, it's not that warm and I've only had one opportunity to wear it so far but it will be making the journey to Denmark with me because I don't really have room for my bulky winter coat. Fingers crossed the temperature will rise a bit before I leave!

here's to the ladies who lunch

Shirt: New Look
Jumper: New Look
Trousers: New Look
Boots: Hush Puppies
Necklace: no idea

I've been neglecting this blog (both my blogs actually) the last few weeks. I have no excuses but , hey, I'm back now. In the last few weeks I've booked a spontaneous 2 week holiday to visit a friend in Denmark (I go this Thursday), rekindled my love of musical theatre (with Patti LuPone's help), had my ears pierced, and found a really delicious sparkling perry for 99p in Lidl. Good times (and bum times. I've seen 'em all and, my dear, I'm still here!).

Being a cheapskate, I'm travelling to Denmark with only hand luggage (which with Ryanair means a bag under 55x40x21cm and weighing less than 10kg). Fortunately, I can wash things at my friends so it won't be too much of a problem. However, for someone who has always been an over-packer, it has taken considerable restraint to whittle down my luggage list to things that I need rather than might need. I may make a post about how to get the most out of the free hand luggage allowance as, if you're willing to skip a few frivolities, it can save you quite a bit of money and makes navigating the airport considerably easier.

What have you been up to?

bow ties are cool

Photobucket
Shirt: New Look
Trousers: New Look
Shoes: New Look (I think)
Bow tie: Vintage (from my mum)

Some days, all I want is to find a beautifully tailored suit (à la Marlene Dietrich) in my wardrobe. I've had no such luck yet, but when I woke up today wanting to look fairly dapper, this is what I came up with. It's decidedly more casual than a suit would be, but comfort is what I aim for!

I am currently in the throes of a rather torrid obsession with Patti LuPone. I've been a lover of musical theatre since I was a small child but for the past couple of years I've been somewhat neglecting it. I think Patti is going to be responsible for me falling in love with it all over again. Will I ever be as fabulous as Patti? No. Will I try to be as fabulous as Patti? The answer is an emphatic YES!

(Last night I dreamt that I smoked one cigarette and then discovered that my voice had become as incredible as Patti's. It was a great dream, but I'm not sure I should try it in real life. ;D)

top of the world

Photobucket
3/4 sleeve tee: New Look
Cardigan: New Look
Skirt: Vintage
Tights: New Look
Shoes: New Look

There's something about a pencil skirt, be it tweedy, wooly, or sleek and silky, that makes me feel like I can accomplish anything. So when I popped on this skirt today, I knew my day was going to be good. And it was. I met up with a friend and we spent the afternoon eating bruschetta and panini, drinking milk shakes, and enjoying the lovely day (which happened to be incredibly mild for England in March). I also had a rather interesting conversation with the taxi driver who spent the entire journey talking about his upcoming trip to Cyprus. :)

What are your plans for the rest of the weekend? I think I'm going to spend tomorrow in the company of some good films tomorrow.

Meet Scamp

Photobucket

Scamp is the little tyke who can bring cheer to the most dismal of days by the slightest wag of his tail. He's a rescue dog and is 10 years old (his "birthday" (the day we brought him home from the RSPCA 5 years ago) was on Tuesday). Personally, I would have given him a more imaginative name but Scamp was the one he came with and it stuck. Usually he goes by "Scampi" though. His main pleasures in life are eating, chasing cats (he has a personal vendetta against the two that live next door who are constantly teasing him by sunbathing in the garden when he's not watching), and being scratched (he has quite severe allergies so if you scratch him he will love you forever!). Some of his more peculiar traits include barking at the postman whilst out on a walk (even if the poor man isn't going to our house), behaving in exactly the same manner towards  the window cleaners, crawling along the floor on his belly, and standing underneath the bird feeders in the garden so he can eat the seeds that they drop. He also likes running round and round in circles on the beach. All in all, he's a pretty cool dude.

Hello, hello!

Photobucket
Long sleeved tee: George at Asda
Jumper: New Look
Jeans: New Look
Flats: ?

Well, hello there! You appear to be reading my very first blog post here at Fishberry Jam and for that I thank you. It's always a little awkward writing the first post on a blog so I'm just going to list a few facts about myself so that I don't feel like such a stranger to you. :)
  • My name is Sophie, I'm 18 years old, and I live in England (and I don't need a governess!)
  • This is my second blog. I've been writing over at my classic film blog Waitin' on a Sunny Day since May 2010 and I hope to continue doing so for a long time to come. I created Fishberry Jam as somewhere I could post about topics that don't exactly fall under the classic film header.
  • My favourite tv series is Band of Brothers. I've seen it far too many times and can often be found shouting "THREE MILES UP, THREE MILES DOWN! HI HO SILVER!" whilst revoking people's passes.
  • I have a dog called Scamp who will no doubt be making frequent guest appearances on here.
  • I love to bake.
  • My favourite classic actress is Deborah Kerr and my favourite contemporary actress is Gillian Anderson. You can find a list of my other favourite classic actresses here.
  • This fabulous song is constantly stuck in my head.
  • I think bow ties are absolutely delightful.
  • I collect classic film memorabilia.
  • I love languages but am sadly not fluent in any.
That's all for today but stay tuned for more posts within the next few days! :)

P.S. If you got The Sound of Music reference in there, you are my friend.
